Anybody who knows Jeanne knows she's wanted a new bathroom for, oh, just less than fourteen years (which would be since the time we moved into the house). It's just that other things have been of greater importance - four missions, three weddings, 5 college students, not to mention R.S. President, Seminary Teacher, Stake YW's Presidency. Well, she certainly understands the commitment pattern. Here's how it went in this case. "Rodger, that is a fantastic deal on that vanity (at Pottery Barn Outlet)." She knows Rodger is a sucker for deals, so Rodger agrees and they purchase a 6 foot long, marble topped vanity with all accessories for some rediculously low price. Of course, there's no chance it fits in the current bathroom and the only place to store it in the whole house is in Jeanne and Rodger's bedroom as a constant reminder that the time has come to remodel the bathroom.
Since Rodger complained about paying Carl $30/hr. on the last bathroom to haul garbage by bucket load down to the trash trailer, Jeanne commits to demolish the bathroom on her own. Once the bathroom is torn up both Rodger and Carl will have to get committed to the whole project. The demolition was a tad more difficult than anticipated. The comfort in that is knowing that our house is built like a tank. The downside is that after a week of work, Jeanne is somewhat dissatisfied with the progress. Rodger is an idea guy. He comes up with a great idea. Why not let Carl do the rest of the demolition? Can you see how Jeanne's plan overcame Rodger's primary objection (Carl doing demolition at $30/hr.). She's a genius - a committed genius.
No, she is not saying, "don't take my picture." This is an important piece of history not to be left off the record. "See the blister on my hand? That's what it took to get Rodger to come to his senses and let Carl do the demolition." Let it so be recorded! Carl, it's all yours. RP
